Advanced registered nurses (ARNs) are registered nurses who have completed a minimum of five years of education and work in an advanced practice role. Advanced registered nurses may provide services that require higher levels of knowledge, skills, and techniques than those required by most RNs. Some examples include managing pain relief after surgery or providing care to patients with chronic disease conditions such as diabetes or heart failure. However, not all ARNs specialize in these areas – some ARNs specialize in specific types of nursing practice such as geriatric nursing or pediatric nursing.

As an advanced registered nurse, you are the expert on your patient’s condition and the best person to educate them about their illness. You will provide information about what is happening with their health, how it might affect them in the future, how they can manage their symptoms and even find ways to prevent complications from developing in the future.
