Introduction
Management models are a way for organizations to achieve their goals. There are many different management models, but they all have their own advantages and disadvantages. In this blog post we will explore the most common models that are used today in health care:
Model for Improvement
Model for Improvement is a framework for continuous improvement. It’s a systematic approach to problem solving and change that helps you identify problems and find solutions, using a series of steps to help you reach your goals.
The MFI model includes four stages:

Problem Identification – identifying the root cause(s) of performance gaps in an organization or team. This stage can be done by gathering data from various sources (e.g., surveys), interviewing key stakeholders, etc.;

Goal Setting – defining what needs improvement within an organization or team;

Action Planning – determining how best to implement actions related to improving performance; and finally,

Implementation – executing those actions step-by-step until desired results are achieved
Deming’s PDSA Cycle
PDSA stands for Plan, Do, Study, and Act. It is a systematic approach to problem solving that can be used to improve any process or system.
The PDSA cycle begins with a description of the problem and ends with implementation of an action plan for improvement. The first step in this process is to identify your current situation by asking yourself questions such as: What’s going wrong? Why does it keep happening? How can I fix it?
Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a statistical process control methodology that focuses on reducing variation in business processes. It’s used to improve quality, increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Six Sigma provides tools for measurement, analysis and improvement of processes within an organization’s operations. The goal of Six Sigma is not only to reduce defects but also reduce variation: the difference between actual results and expected results (or targets). This reduction can be achieved by improving process performance through better design or redesigning it completely after creating an effective toolset that allows companies to identify opportunities for improvement across all stages of their operations – from planning through production phases – while maintaining cost efficiencies along with high standards set by regulatory bodies such as FDA or ISO 9000 standards.”
Total Quality Management

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach that focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the business.

It is a system of policies and procedures that are designed to improve the quality of products and services.

TQM emphasizes customer satisfaction, which means that you should focus on meeting customers’ needs by providing them with high-quality products or services at an affordable price. These goals can be achieved through Six Sigma methods such as Lean manufacturing, Kaizen events and Value Stream Mapping projects.
These are some of the different management models that are more commonly used in health care today.
The models are not mutually exclusive, and they can be used together. The model for improvement comes from a nursing background, while deming’s PDCA cycle is the most widely known of all of these models. Six sigma was first developed for use in manufacturing and other industrial settings, but has been adapted to be used in health care settings as well.
Conclusion
In short, there are many different models that can be used to improve the quality of care in health care. These include PDSA cycle and Six Sigma, which are both useful but only as a starting point for improvement.
