Personal Philosophy Of Nursing
Introduction
Nursing is a noble profession, and nursing students are passionate about the field. In fact, nursing is one of the most exciting fields to study in college. The immense amount of growth and change that occurs with every new medical advancement makes it difficult not to be excited by what your future will hold as a nurse.
Passionate
Passion is what drives you to do what you do. Passion is the fuel for your fire, and it’s what makes getting out of bed in the morning feel like such a chore. When passion is lacking, life can feel like a struggle—but when it’s there, everything seems possible!
When I think about my passion for nursing, it makes me want to get up every day and go out there again (and again) until we find a way to make this work together as one team here at VA Hospital #1: You’re doing great!
Compassionate
Compassion is the ability to understand and share another person’s feelings. A compassionate nurse will be moved by the suffering of others, whether it be a patient or someone else who is close to them.
Educator
-
Teaching is an important part of nursing.
-
Nurses teach patients, families, and other health care professionals about their disease process or condition.
-
Nurses can also teach the public about health issues that affect them personally.*
Advocate
A nurse’s job is to advocate for patients, their rights and needs.
Nurses are also responsible for advocating for the well-being of each patient. They do this by making sure that they’re comfortable throughout the day and at night while they are in the hospital or clinic. A nurse’s job also includes ensuring that each person is treated with dignity, which means respecting their wishes as well as those of others who have been involved with them (such as family members).
Leader
Leadership is a learned skill. It’s about influence, not power. Leadership is about service, not self-interest. Leadership is about collaboration and developing others, not control and domination—or even just being in charge of your own life and knowing what to do with it all by yourself. When you’re leading people, you have to be able to see the big picture of your work together as a team—and then look past those details so that everyone can work together toward common goals.
Professional
Professionalism is a core value of nursing. It is demonstrated by the nurse’s attitude, behavior and actions.
The key to professionalism is being honest about yourself, treating your patients with respect and dignity, showing compassion for those who are suffering from illness or injury, respecting authority figures such as doctors or nurses (who have more training than you), being able to speak clearly when answering questions from patients or families about their care plans/treatment options etc…
Some examples of how professional nurses act:
-
When meeting new people at social events outside work hours – smile at them first before saying anything else! This shows confidence which can be attractive in others especially if someone seems nervous around you;
-
Do not gossip about other staff members within earshot; this could damage relationships with colleagues who may want information but don’t ask directly because they don’t want anyone else knowing what they’re doing behind closed doors…
Optimist
-
Be positive. The word “optimist” means a person who is hopeful and believes that everything will turn out alright in the end. In nursing, you can be an optimist by believing that your patients will recover or that they’ll improve once they get treatment.
-
Don’t give up on yourself or others! If someone is getting worse instead of better, don’t give up hope—you’re probably right about what’s happening with them (unless you’re completely wrong). You’ll also want to keep an open mind when things aren’t going well in your life; sometimes it takes time before we realize how good we have it!
Scholarly
-
Scholarly:
This is a big one. You need to be doing research and writing, as well as publishing your work in journals or books. This will help you get published and make sure that people know about what you have done, but it’s also really important for the future of nursing.
Conclusion
There are many different aspects of nursing that make it such an interesting career, but what they all have in common is the desire to help others. Nurses play a vital role in society by caring for people when they are sick or injured and working closely with doctors to make sure their patients get the best possible treatment.
