Impact of Small nuclear weapons on Washington, DC: Outcomes and Emergency Response Recommendation
Introduction
The United States has a large quantity of nuclear weapons, but the smaller ones are still in use. They have become more prevalent since the end of the Cold War, with countries such as France and China having some stockpiles as well. These small nuclear weapons were developed during the 1980’s to replace older types with limited capacity for delivering a massive amount of explosives.
Nuclear weapon system
The nuclear weapon system (NWS) is a weapon system that uses nuclear weapons. It is also known as the “nuclear delivery vehicle,” or “little boy.”
The NWS consists of three major components:
-
An explosive warhead containing high explosives and fissile material that serves to initiate the chain reaction in an atomic bomb;
-
A means of delivering the explosive warhead to its target; and
-
An electronic detonator system for initiating detonation at will.
Target area
The target area is a major metropolitan area, with a population of over ten million people. It has one of the highest concentrations of population in the world and is also home to many government institutions and businesses that support national security and economic stability.
The target area includes both densely populated areas as well as non-dense rural regions, which makes it difficult for responders to quickly identify where an attack might occur. In addition, because Washington DC has many national monuments like Mount Vernon or Arlington Cemetery nearby, they can be used as landmarks by attackers seeking targets within their vicinity.
Direct effects
The direct effects of a small nuclear weapon are mainly blast and thermal effects, but it can also cause injuries and fatalities due to radiation.
The blast wave will transfer energy in all directions around the target area. The severity of damage depends on a number of factors including size and shape of the bomb, distance from ground zero, height above ground level at which it explodes (thus increasing injury rates), type of building construction used for structural support or occupancy by people etc., terrain conditions such as topography etc., weather conditions during detonation (e.g., if there is snowfall then ice crystals may be formed which could cause additional injury). A large explosion under dry conditions will generate more dust than one occurring in wet weather conditions because particles have more time to settle before reaching their equilibrium positions when exposed to winds moving away from ground zero (or towards it).
Indirect effects
The indirect effects of the blast are the most dangerous. These include long-term effects such as damage to infrastructure, economy and society.
The first effects can be seen in the short term and are usually minimal, but they can be very serious if untreated. For example:
-
Shock waves travel at speeds up to 1 mile per second (1km/s) through air; this means that if you were standing next to someone who had been hit by a small nuclear explosion, your body would be thrown backwards about four feet (1 m). This is called “falling over”. You would probably not even notice it at first because you would feel like you were going through the typical motion of walking or running when suddenly everything stops moving forward and then starts moving back towards you again!
Emergency response
Emergency response is the process of helping victims following an emergency event. It involves providing immediate assistance and temporary shelter, as well as providing medical care, food and water to rebuild the community’s infrastructure.
Emergency management is a discipline within public safety that focuses on planning for emergencies, predicting emergencies, preparing people to be resilient in an emergency situation, implementing plans that mitigate risks associated with disasters and mitigating their impact when they occur.
Disaster relief refers to the actions taken by governments or other organizations (e.g., voluntary agencies) at local levels of government such as counties or townships after an incident occurs within their jurisdiction whereby affected individuals receive help from others who share similar needs due to personal circumstances such as age groups; gender identity; disability status etcetera…
Takeaway:
-
Takeaway:
One of the main takeaways from this study is that small nuclear weapons can have a devastating effect on Washington, DC.
-
Recommendation:
The primary recommendation in this paper is to make sure that all nuclear weapons are secured and not in the hands of terrorists or rogue nations. This would help prevent them from being used against the United States or any other country on Earth, including Israel and Saudi Arabia who both have small nuclear arsenals themselves (although they do not use them). The US should also consider closing down its own program as well due to its high cost compared with other countries’ programs which makes it harder for countries outside of North Korea/China/Russia/Iran etc…to build their own Nukes without having access too much funding from other sources like oil companies whose profits fluctuate depending on market prices.”
Conclusion
The U.S. has a great many nuclear weapons and they have a variety of different uses, but they all have one thing in common: they can affect the country’s capital, Washington DC. The effects vary from small explosions to massive firestorms and even radiation sickness for people who are not far enough away from ground zero. This has led some experts to conclude that if there were ever another attack on the city then it would be even more devastating than Hiroshima or Nagasaki because of its proximity to so many civilians who live within its borders.
