Evidence-Based Project, Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical inquiry and systematic Views
Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment. This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.
Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.
Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.
The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)
Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews
Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:
Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.
Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples. My PICOT question: Module 3 Main Discussion
Patient-centered care and patient safety have been top priorities in the nursing field, and with safety/care come advances in technology that can make that process easier. With advances in technology, it has become easier for patients and healthcare providers to have access to faster care and patient care plans, but with technology comes technical errors and potential electrical downtime. While using SAFER (Safety Assurance Factors for Electronic Health Records Resilience) and smarter guides together could potentially be helpful to measure and improve on today’s EHR technology, cognitively supportive sociotechnical workflows also need to be developed (Johnson, K. B., & Stead, W. W. (2022). Improvements will enhance electronic communication on a healthcare network where all patients will have access to their health records. Another thing to factor into the EHR system is the identification of patient events, which would take a long time to catch before having such technology. Identifying patient safety events using electronic health records (EHRs) and automated machine learning-based detection methods are among the methods that can help improve the quality of healthcare service provision. Artificial intelligence (AI) has also been embedded in EHR systems to identify, assess, and mitigate threats to patient safety (Deimazar, G., & Sheikhtaheri, A. (2023).
I will be developing a PICOT question regarding my chosen topic of EHR (electronic health records) and patient safety. The purpose of a PICOT question is simple: It is the mechanism to identify the terms to be used to search for the best evidence to answer a burning clinical question. In other words, the PICOT question is the search strategy. The search strategy leads to an unbiased and effective search (Gallagher Ford, L., & Melnyk, B. M. (2019). Search engines I used were the Walden Library, Google Scholar, CINAHL Plus, and Medline with full text. I searched using the Boolean technique with time frames of 2018 to 2023, and not much was available, but I liked what I found.
PICOT Question:
With the advancement in technology, patients have access from practically anywhere in the world to their health records, providers can be home and enter patient orders, safety events and so much more can be followed, and healthcare corporations can share patient information/records from one facility to another. How can companies, corporations, and healthcare facilities afford to stay on top of cyber security while improving patient safety?
P-population/problem: healthcare providers/patients and Cyber security
I-Intervention: Enhance cyber security in the EHR systems.
C-Comparison: Compared to standard fishing and safety protocol.
O-Outcome: Improved security for better patient outcomes.
T-Time: Continued ongoing process to keep up with today’s technology.
