Assignment: Evidence-Based Organizational Change—Part 1 Essay
Typically it takes seventeen years to get nursing research from the “bench to the bedside,” and this is entirely too long! Just think of the compromises or “missteps” in nursing care that could negatively impact patient satisfaction and patient outcomes . Organizational change, as well as nursing care, must be grounded in evidence-based strategies at all times . It can be challenging to seek out and apply evidence-based knowledge for clinical practice, operational issues, and nursing leadership .Nurse leaders must have quality time to ponder, review, locate, analyze, and synthesize evidence-based resources to guide practice and organizational change .Nurse leaders must be able to apply effective evidence-based strategies to foster and promote quality care and achieve the organizational mission and strategic outcomes .Nurse leaders must also be able to clearly communicate change to multiple key stakeholders within the healthcare organization .One of the ways to communicate change is to prepare an executive summary describing the proposed change .
This week, you will begin preparing an executive summary of an evidence-based organizational change to improve one aspect or focus of the healthcare organization’s strategic plan .You will also present your rationale for implementing the evidence-based practice change . The purpose of this assignment is to assess your progress on the final executive summary due in Week 10 .This assignment provides you the opportunity to self-assess and determine any issues or challenges that need to be resolved prior to completing and submitting the final assignment .
Week 7 Tasks

Evidence-Based Organizational Change
Introduction
Organizational change is a complex process that involves multiple stakeholders. It can have both positive and negative consequences for organizations and employees. When implemented effectively, evidence-based organizational change can improve employee productivity, reduce turnover rates and increase organizational performance. However, if not implemented correctly, it can lead to higher costs and lower productivity levels as well as increased employee disengagement.
Positives and Negatives of Evidence-based Organizational Change
-
Positive: Evidence-based organizational change is more likely to result in better decision-making, better outcomes, more effective interventions and less waste of resources.
-
Negative: It can be time consuming to find and analyze evidence for any given situation.
What it is Necessary to use Evidence to change organizations?
Evidence-based strategies are more effective than non-evidence-based strategies.
Evidence-based strategies are more likely to be effective, adopted and sustainable.
Who Needs Evidence-Based Organizational Change?
You should implement evidence-based organizational change in your organization regardless of its size and type.
-
Large organizations: If your organization has 10 or more full time employees and $1 million in annual revenue, then it is large enough to benefit from implementing EBO.
-
Smaller organizations: The benefits of EBO are not significantly reduced when the size of the organization is small (less than 100 people). However, there are some limitations that might make it difficult for smaller organizations to achieve meaningful results from an EBO program. For example, if your mission statement includes “doing good” or “helping people” as one of its key values then you may want to consider having someone else lead this effort as well because these values will guide how much impact this type of project will have on your organization’s culture overall
Why Use Evidence-based Change?
If you’re a business owner or manager, then you probably already know that evidence-based change is the way forward. But if not, let’s start with one important question: why would anyone want to use evidence-based change?
There are three main reasons why organizations should use evidence-based change:
-
It works better than traditional approaches. Evidence-based approaches have been shown over and over again (in many different studies) to be more effective at changing behavior than traditional methods like incentives and rewards. They also tend to be easier for people on all sides of an issue—those who want change, those who don’t want it, and everyone else in between—to understand and accept because they’re based on facts rather than emotions or ideology (which can lead people down blind alleys). And unlike other approaches which tend toward incrementalism (one step at a time), these methods are designed so that each step builds upon previous ones so there’s less chance for backtracking later down the line when things get complicated due to unforeseen circumstances; instead everything progresses smoothly forward toward achieving desired outcomes without any delays whatsoever.”
How to Effectively Implement Evidence-based Strategies
A number of steps can be taken to ensure that an evidence-based strategy is implemented effectively.
-
First and foremost, a structured approach to change management is important. This should include:
-
A clear understanding of what needs to be done when (e.g., piloting);
-
A plan for how the change will be implemented;
-
An evaluation plan and methodology for measuring results; and,
-
A specific timeline for implementing changes
Organizations need to benefit from the best available evidence when implementing changes.
Evidence-based change is a way to improve organizational performance. It is important to use evidence in order to achieve desired results, but it can also be difficult for organizations to implement. This can be due to the lack of resources and expertise necessary for conducting research on their own or having an inadequate understanding of how best practices are applied within an organization.
Organizations should consider using evidence-based approaches when implementing changes because they will help ensure that those changes are evaluated based on sound research methods and findings from other studies as well as their own experiences with similar projects or programs.
Conclusion
Organizational change is a broad topic, but the evidence we have suggests that it can be done successfully with a combination of leadership, behavior, and process changes. It also requires patience since change takes time as people get used to new ways of working together and behaviors are gradually changed over time. There are many different methods that you can use when trying to implement evidence-based strategies in your organization; however, the most important thing is not to give up on them once they don’t seem like working out right away because all those factors combined together make up what makes up an effective change strategy!
