In 500-750 words (not including the title page and reference page), apply a change model to the implementation plan. Include the following:
- Roger’s diffusion of innovation theory is a particularly good theoretical framework to apply to an EBP project. However, students may also choose to use change models, such as Duck’s change curve model or the transtheoretical model of behavioral change. Other conceptual models presented such as a utilization model (Stetler’s model) and EBP models (the Iowa model and ARCC model) can also be used as a framework for applying your evidence-based intervention in clinical practice.
- Apply one of the above models and carry your implementation through each of the stages, phases, or steps identified in the chosen model.
- In addition, create a conceptual model of the project. Although you will not be submitting the conceptual model you design in Topic 5 with the narrative, the conceptual model should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Upon receiving feedback from the instructor, refine “Section E: Change Model” for your final submission. This will be a continuous process throughout the course for each section.
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Introduction
The first time I saw a duck change curve, it was an image that went viral on Facebook. The original post had been shared more than 1 million times and received over 35,000 comments. It showed a woman feeding her falcon in her backyard while holding a pint of milk in one hand and an apple in the other. Suddenly she turns around with both hands full and walks towards her neighbor’s house across the street—and then back again!
Denial.
Denial is a normal part of the change curve. It can help you cope with change and protect yourself from negative emotions, but it can also be harmful if you don’t work through your feelings or think through what they mean.
For example, denial can delay action on an issue and that may be how we end up where we are today in terms of climate change. If people deny the reality of climate change by saying “It’s not happening!” or “I don’t believe it!,” then they won’t take any steps to address it until there’s a crisis at hand (like Hurricane Sandy).
Disbelief.
In order to accept the curve model, people must be able to see it. They need to develop an understanding that ducks are not all alike and their personalities are shaped by their environments. The same is true for humans: we’re all different individuals with different strengths and weaknesses based on our experiences in life. It’s important for us as teachers and parents to understand this so we can help our children reach their full potentials.
People also like being consistent with themselves (and others). If you want your child to become a scientist or mathematician or philosopher, then giving them math lessons will teach him how numbers work together when added together correctly; but if you want him just learn how numbers work together then asking him questions like “How many times do I have?” won’t help him become anything more than average at math because no matter what answer he gives there will always be someone else who can give better answers!
Acceptance.
Acceptance.
When you accept that the change has happened and that you can’t change the past, but that in this new situation, you can influence your future. You still have the same emotions as before: anger about losing control of your identity (you feel like a duck), sadness at having to give up something familiar (you’re no longer an artist), fear at being unable to cope with new challenges (you’re not sure how to make money). But now they are healthy emotions rather than unhealthy ones: they are part of adapting to your new reality instead of distracting from it or causing more problems than they solve!
Trying.
Trying is part of the process. Trying is not a destination, but rather it’s an ongoing journey. It’s what you do as you continue on your path towards where you want to go and learn more about yourself along the way.
People change when they try new things, when they make mistakes and are willing to accept them as learning experiences, or when they take risks in areas of their life that haven’t been explored before—and this can happen without even realizing it!
Mastery.
Mastery is a state of mind, not a person. This means that you can be in mastery for yourself, or for others. First, it means that you have reached the highest level of your ability (or potential), and now know how to use it effectively in any situation. Second, you have developed the mental habits required for success at whatever level your work may take place at from single tasks through teams and organizations up through entire businesses or even nations!
Thirdly: mastery requires time; patience; hard work; attention to detail; repeated practice until perfection becomes second nature – which leads us into our final point: learning from mistakes!
Ducks don’t change, but people do.
The world around us is constantly changing, and we often try to change things that don’t need changing. We can’t change the world, but we can change the way we react to it. We must accept our limitations and work with them. In order for us to grow as human beings, we must try new things, be patient with ourselves and others and most importantly: stay positive!
Conclusion
At first, Ducks seem to be a very static and unchanging species. But as we’ve seen today, they can actually change quite a bit – even if it’s only in how they look!
