NURS 8701: Doctor of Nursing Practice | Module 3
In this module, you review the requirements of your DNP Project Proposal. You may post any questions that arise about the DNP Project to the Q & A Discussion Forum. This module also provides you with submission instructions for your DNP Project Proposal.
Learning Objectives
This required assignment fulfills the second Course Outcome:
- Produce approved DNP Project documents
Assignment: DNP Project Proposal
The DNP Project Proposal (20–35 pages, plus references) is a detailed plan for carrying out the DNP Project. The Proposal builds on the approved Premise and will be presented to the DNP Project Committee in written form and orally via phone conference. The Project Proposal includes the first three sections of the DNP Project.
Review the DNP Project Overview, DNP Project Checklist, DNP Project Minimum Standards Rubric, and other resources available on the DNP page on the Walden Doctoral Capstone website for complete instructions and post any questions or concerns you have for your Project Chair to the Q & A Discussion Forum.
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument. ADDITIONAL INFO
DNP Project Proposal
Introduction
The DNP Project Proposal is a document that outlines the goals of the project, its scope and focus, who will be involved in it, and how these individuals will work together. It serves as a guide for potential collaborators and reviewers on how to evaluate your proposal.
PICO QUESION
PICO stands for Population, Intervention, Comparison and Outcome. It’s a way to organize your research question so that you can focus on what matters most in the context of your project.
The PICO format is:
Population: Who are we studying? Example: people with asthma or diabetes who use an inhaler (inhaled medications) or oral medications on a daily basis to manage their disease. Intervention: What do we want to change about this group of people? Example: We want them to increase their use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), which are taken by mouth twice daily during acute attacks; this would reduce the risk of hospitalization due to severe asthma attacks caused by frequent episodes at home or work environments where there isn’t access 24/7 because they’re still working full time jobs outside normal business hours so they have no choice but take meds every night before going home after work ends around 5pm PST
BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM
You have been asked to present a proposal for a new drug policy to the United Nations. The United Nations is currently struggling with the issue of drug addiction, which is causing many problems in society. They are looking for ways to combat this problem and make sure that it doesn’t get out of control.
It is not clear what exactly caused this problem but based on some research done by experts at different universities, it seems like there might be something going on with people’s brains which makes them more susceptible than others when it comes down to drugs or alcohol consumption.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The problem statement is a concise statement that describes the problem. It should be written in the first person and may or may not include the word “problem”, but it should be a general description of what you are trying to solve.
The problem statement should not be an abstract research question or hypothesis, which may be too broad to be useful as an opening sentence for your proposal. In fact, if you can’t make sure that your research question is specific enough for this purpose (and don’t have one), then it might be better to consider another method of communicating your project’s goals and purpose than writing up a proposal at all!
SPECIFIC AIMS
In this section, you should state your specific aims and explain how they will be achieved.
You should also explain how these aims relate to the problem statement.
SIGNIFICANCE TO NURSING
The Problem
The problem is important to the community, because it has implications for all citizens. NURSING can address this issue by using its knowledge of nursing practice and research. Nurses can also provide support services such as counseling or social work to patients who have been affected by chronic illness or injury.
The Impact on Patients
This issue has a significant impact on patients’ lives because it takes away from their ability to function normally in society and makes them vulnerable when they leave hospital care (or even just go outside). This may result in poorer quality of life for these individuals and increased risk for further health problems later on down the road if not properly addressed during recovery period after hospitalization/surgery/etcetera!
REFERENCES
In the References section, you will include a list of all references used in your project. Your reference list should be formatted as follows:
-
Author(s)
-
Title, if available (e.g., John Smith’s book on the history of baseball)
A citation style for citing sources is most commonly used in writing and research papers because it allows for easy access to the full text or another specific source for further information. The format for citing sources is as follows:
1 * Author(s). Title of Work/Article/Book etc.. (Year Published). Publisher, City and State or Country (City/State)/Country Name e-mail address where further details about this item can be obtained from publisher’s website; if applicable, this source may also contain an abstract or summary that summarizes main points made within article/chapter etc.. If no author information available then use “Anonymous”.
Takeaway:
-
Takeaway: The takeaway is the main point of your paper, and it should be about what you want people to remember after reading it. It should also be a conclusion or summary of your entire paper.
-
Main idea: Your main idea is what you want readers to take away from this article. It could be something as simple as “DNP Project Proposal” or “How I did my DNP project proposal” or even something more complex like “Why I chose this topic as my dissertation topic”
-
Conclusion/Summary: This section summarizes everything in one paragraph that summarizes each point made throughout the previous sections (i.e., if there are multiple sections).
Conclusion
The DNP Project Proposal is a good resource to get ideas on what you should be researching and writing about as part of your dissertation proposal. It includes an overview of key points, examples and references so that you can easily find what your research will cover. The PICO question is used throughout the document and provides a framework for all sections (see below).
