Determinants of Health (graded)
What makes some healthy and others ill? Healthy People 2020 identifies five Determinants of Health that influence the health of individuals and populations. Healthy People 2020 describes them this way as “a range of personal, social, economic, and environmental factors that influence health status are known as determinants of health” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2014, About Determinants of Health, para 1.
Determinants fall into five categories, including: a) policy making, b) social factors, c) health services, d) individual behavior, and e) biology and genetics.

Determinants of Health
Introduction
Health is a complicated matter, and many different things influence our health. The world has changed a lot since the 1960s, when the World Health Organization first started compiling statistics on determinants of health. We now have access to much more information about how people in different countries live and what they do for fun (or at least recreation). This article will explore some of these factors and how they relate to each other in order to determine how healthy someone is.
A definition of health
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Health is a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living.
Health refers to an individual’s ability to function in their daily activities and interact with others on a normal basis. In other words, it’s about having all your body parts working together at 100%. This includes being able to walk without falling down; talking clearly; seeing properly; moving freely without pain; breathing easily through your nose or mouth (not just from one side); feeling warm under clothes when its cold outside – etc…
Health determinants and the social gradient in health
The social gradient in health refers to the fact that people with less access to healthcare and other resources tend to be more likely to experience poor health. Health inequalities are a major concern for policymakers because they mean that some people will suffer from poor physical and mental wellbeing, while others will not. Health is complex, so it’s important that we understand what factors contribute to our individual health outcomes.
In order for us all to live healthier lives together, it’s essential that we understand how these different determinants work together—and where they may fall short of expectations or goals set by policy makers or governments around the world.

A positive mind-set will help keep your body running smoothly as well!
Health is a complicated matter, and many different things influence our health.
Health is a complicated matter, and many different things influence our health. The factors that determine your health include:
-
Social and economic factors (for example, poverty)
-
Your environment (for example, pollution)
-
Genetics (the genes you were born with are important)
It’s also important to note that these factors can be changed by your lifestyle choices. For example, if you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol in moderation then this will impact your overall health negatively over time. If you exercise regularly and eat healthy foods regularly then this will also positively impact your overall well-being.
Conclusion
We have only scratched the surface of health determinants. It is important to remember that these examples are just a few of many different factors that influence our health status, and we should not become complacent about this topic. There is still much research to be done to identify what exactly causes disease and how we can prevent it through lifestyle changes or new treatments.
