Introduction
In this article, I will explore the relationship between psychology and Christian life in a compassionate way. The goal of this article is not to preach or evangelize, but rather to explore how these two disciplines can enrich our spiritual lives. The first part will focus on the psychology of change, which is important because it teaches us that we are all born with the potential to make positive change in our lives. We can’t do it alone; we need help from others as well as God’s grace through Jesus Christ.
The psychology of change
Change is hard. It takes time to become a new person, and it’s often easier to stay the same than it is to make changes in our lives. The psychology of change is the study of how people interact with their environment and prepare themselves for change.
Our minds have certain psychological barriers that keep us from making positive changes in our lives:

We tend to repeat behaviors that are familiar, comfortable or pleasurable for us (e.g., eating junk food).

We fear losing something important if we don’t act now (e.g., losing weight).

We fear failure more than success because failure means admitting defeat and loss of control over something important such as health or personal relationships; therefore people will avoid taking risks because if they fail at something then they could lose something else important too!
Handling guilt
Guilt is a normal emotion, but it can be both useful and destructive. If you feel guilty about something, do not ignore it! Try to resolve your guilt by talking to someone who knows the situation (a pastor or counselor) so that they can help guide you through the process of resolving it.
Unresolved guilt can lead to depression and anxiety because these emotions affect how we think about ourselves as individuals and how we relate with others around us. This feeling of inadequacy and lack of self-esteem often leads people into unhealthy behaviors such as drug use which creates further problems in their lives overall
The importance of self-esteem
Self-esteem is important for mental health. It’s not the same as self-importance or arrogance, but it does play a role in how we feel about ourselves and the way we think about ourselves. If you have low self-esteem, you might feel that your life doesn’t measure up. You may also have negative thoughts about yourself that make you feel like something is wrong with who you are—that there’s something missing inside of yourself or on the outside of who you are as a person.
When someone has high self-esteem, they believe they’re valuable and capable individuals whose abilities can be used to achieve success in life. A person with high self-esteem doesn’t need any external praise or validation because they know deep down inside what makes them special: their own unique qualities!
Forgiveness and healing
Forgiveness is a process. It involves acknowledging the harm you’ve experienced and letting go of your anger, resentment and blame toward others. Forgiveness is not the same as condoning or forgetting what someone did to you; it’s about letting go of that pain and moving forward with your life without dwelling on past hurts.

Forgiveness isn’t always easy to do—but it’s necessary if we want to heal from trauma or loss through self-forgiveness (i.e., forgiving yourself). Self-forgiveness requires us first to recognize our own feelings before we can begin working toward forgiveness with another person who hurt us deeply in some way or another through their actions or words.*
For example: If someone physically abused me years ago but I’m now able to forgive them because they’re no longer alive (and therefore unable/unwilling/unable)to hurt me anymore–then yes! I would consider myself truly “free” from any lingering resentment towards them since there’s no longer anything left for which we could hold onto such negative emotions.”
The problem of anxiety
Anxiety is a normal response to stress. It’s important to understand that anxiety is not weakness, but rather simply an instinctive response that can be managed effectively. Anxiety affects people of all ages and backgrounds—from children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who experience behavioral symptoms such as repetitive movements or incessant talking; to adults struggling with depression or anxiety disorders; even those without any mental health issues can feel overwhelmed by their environment at times.
Anxiety disorders are common among Americans aged 18-44 years old, with about 20% reporting having experienced one in their lifetime (1). For many individuals with these conditions, the symptoms may not seem significant enough for them to seek professional help—and yet these feelings may lead them down a path of self-harm or suicide attempts when left untreated (2).
It’s important not only for those who struggle with mental health issues but also as educators ourselves: it’s our job now more than ever before educate our young ones on how they can overcome these obstacles together rather than letting them fall into darkness alone.”
Codependency
Codependency is a term that has been used to describe a range of behaviors and attitudes. It’s often used interchangeably with co-dependency, but there are some subtle differences between the two terms.
Codependency is defined as: “a condition in which an individual seeks approval or nurturance from another person who offers little or none in return.” This can affect both men and women, but it’s more common among women because they tend to take on more caretaker roles than do men. The symptoms of codependence include needing others’ approval (whether they’re conscious about it or not), being overly dependent on others for support, sacrificing your own needs and desires for theirs (even if those needs conflict with what you think would be best for yourself), feeling guilty when others don’t meet your standards of perfectionism—and sometimes even becoming emotionally abusive toward them!
