Week 10 Project 1 – High Stakes Final NT Research Paper
Week 10 Project 1 – High Stakes Final NT Research Paper
Note: Per the South University grading policy, this assignment is classified as the Final Project assignment. If a student does not complete this assignment and fails the course, he or she will be awarded a grade of NCF.
Due This Week: The NT Research Paper of 4000 words or more.
For the final, High Stakes NT Research paper, you will create a solid research introduction of the context, meaning (exegesis), and theology of your approved passage.
In 4,000 words, create a paper that explains your passage. While every passage will have different interpretive issues, some areas are generally accepted:
An introduction that contains a thesis statement, an overview of key issues with the biblical passage, and perhaps some goals of your paper.
A brief introduction to the NT book it appears in, and contextual issues surrounding the interpretation of the book generally and your passage specifically.
A close reading of key textual features, areas of concern, and areas of debate.
A discussion of the NT theological issues that occur in the passages, and as warranted, in discussion with other biblical theological ideas outside your passage.
Conclude with a strong conclusion that summarizes key findings and suggests further areas of study.
At all costs, avoid regurgitating arguments from 1 or 2 commentaries and especially (!) including unfounded opinions (each sentence of your paper should be able to stand on its own). Study the issue; synthesize the fruits of your study into this paper.
Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document. Utilize at least eighteen sources from professional and academic literature in your research (as will be approved or adjusted when you submit your bibliography in W4). Professional and academic literature may include peer-reviewed journals from the South University Online Library; relevant textbooks; professional and academic books or monographs published by established academic and professional publishers (but see the source stipulations from the bibliography assignment). Interaction with relevant research and biblical texts is expected, and a key part of your grade for this assignment. Also critical to your grade is your clarity of synthesis, mastery of contextual and theological, and overall handling of the biblical text. As always, avoid excessive direct quotations (unless it truly benefits your argument). Direct quotations should be rare and memorable!
Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and formatted correctly in Turabian style with cover page and bibliography.
