Consider unique needs of pediatric patients
A 15-month-old Hispanic male presents for a well visit with his grandmother. The grandmother says that they were late to the appointment because they had to take the bus. The grandmother is concerned that he only says one word. His MCHAT score is –10 and does not change when the MCHAT-R is administered. The grandmother admits he is still sleeping in the crib with his bottle of milk at night. You note dental decay on exam.
Considering social determinants of health, cultural competency, and social change, explain the strategies of culturally competent communication you would implement when sharing your concerns with the grandmother. State your primary diagnosis with differentials. Explain your treatment plan. Cite any sources used in your response in APA format (7th edition).
