Case study and critical evaluation (worth 60%)

Due date: Sunday, October 15th, 23:59 (Week 12)

Word limit: 1,500 to 2,000 words (+/-10%)

Weighting: 60% of overall mark

Students are to produce a 1,500-2,000 word report (full report format to include a table of

contents, introduction, body, and conclusion) based on a case study provided below. Students

will choose a technology to outline and apply to the scenario. Students will critically evaluate

the use, application, purpose, and outcomes of applying the technology to the case study.

Students should make connections to relevant curriculum where appropriate, and make clear

links between the needs of students presented in the case study (according to their skills, but

also for succeeding in your class), and benefits and challenges presented by using the chosen

technology with the cohort.

Case study

You are teaching a mixed-ability class of 25 students in your chosen discipline and year level

(make this clear in your report). Your students range from being conscientious to having no

interest in your subject. Some students come from a culturally and linguistically diverse

background, and have limited experience using technology, especially for education

purposes. You have three 45-minute classes per week with this cohort.

Mary

a hard-working student who will often finish your set tasks in advance.

Matthew

is generally interested in your class, but is easily distracted by his friends.

Zhang

is still learning to express himself in English, but is able to understand and follow

instructions. His technology skills are advanced.

Khalia

is a quite student who likes to work on her own. Her abilities are strong, but she needs to be

encouraged.

Reggie

is a troublemaker, but is capable when he puts his mind to it. His mind wanders, but he

applies himself when he is interested in the topic and activity.

Sophia

comes from a family of high achievers, and puts pressure on herself to achieve in the same

way. She is more creative than academic, so excels more in alternative tasks.
