I have looked at the two videos suggested by Dr. Dan Siegal to explain the chemical reactions of the acute cortisol and adrenaline that impact our memory when dealing with trauma. These chemicals can be neurotoxic to those with trauma to the brain. I chose the neurobiology of trauma. What is the neurobiology of trauma? I believe, when someone experiences trauma or fear, the chemistry in their brain becomes unbalanced and their brain makes them act differently. The child’s brain starts internal neurochemical changes in response to a traumatic experience or an ongoing scenario where they are in danger, which have an impact on their behavior and actions on the outside (Leitch, 2017). Naturally, when someone fears they are in danger, we get signals to our brains to act. To understand the child’s actions on the outside and provide them with the proper care, adults who look after children who have experienced trauma need knowledge of the internal neurobiology of trauma. Only then may the adult be able to interact with the child productively and reduce the likelihood of sending the youngster into crisis mode (Leitch, 2017). Every parent or caregiver who knows the child has been in danger should take percussion to make the trauma child safe when in their care.
