Explain how the application of two verbal and two nonverbal elements would make a good first impression on a client.
Verbal behavior is described as the behavior demonstrated by the words used (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018). One example of a verbal behavior that would make a good first impression on a client is using a warm statement to greet the client, an example y Krist-Ashman and Hull (2018) is “Hello. It’s good to meet you.” This shows interest in the client and a positive response to their presence. Additionally a verbal skill that is effective in building connection is using empathy to respond. This also incorporates using active listening, to understand what the client is communicating. Krist-Ashman and Hull (2018) give an example “My impression is that…”. This gives the client a chance to see that you have listened and are trying to understand, and ensure your interpretation of the information was correct and that what they have to say matters.
Nonverbal behavior refers to the body language or gestures used by a person when communicating (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018). An example of nonverbal communication that can foster a good first impression with a client is to offer a smile when greeting. Facial expressions can convey the emotion behind the words you are saying ( https://www.helpguide.org/articles/relationships-communication/nonverbal-communication.htm). Eye contact is another behavior that can be helpful. As a person on the Autism spectrum, eye contact has always made me uncomfortable. However I have learned how to initiate or maintain it in order to engage in conversations, as the general public has responded to me in a way that lets me know lack of eye contact portrays lack of attention or interest. Utilizing eye contact when initiating a conversation or question to the client would then show interest and help build a good reputation, but also gauging the amount of eye contact they are comfortable maintaining to not create discomfort (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018).
Describe the interview setting and interview skills you would use to demonstrate to a client that you are interested in helping her or him.
The setting for the interview between a social worker and a client is important. The client needs to feel welcome and comfortable enough to share and relax. The setting should be inviting and professional. The environment should reflect the social worker’s ideal connection to their target population (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018). Ideally, I’d like my interview space to be a private office, where the walls are painted a neutral color and I can have some small generic decor. The decor would not be so much to be distracting, but enough to show my personality to help clients engage (a picture of my horse, some fake plants, a cat paperweight, etc). I’d use a sound machine outside the door to provide white noise to allow the client to feel their shared information is safe and confidential. Telehealth is growing, but I would utilize a similar background that allows my face to be the primary focus of the frame so our conversation seems most important. In the paragraphs above I described active listening and empathy. I would demonstrate these by utilizing rephrasing, a way of repeating the client’s ideas or statements but in my own words to ensure and relay understanding (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018). Similarly, I feel clarification is an important interview skill. Clarification allows the social worker to be completely sure of what the client is relaying which is critical in the initial interview when planning and goal setting (Krist-Ashman & Hull, 2018).

response2
The application of two non-verbal events would make a good first impression on a client would be promptness, appearance, and a smile. The application of two nonverbal elements that can make a good first impression are introduction and also the tone of my voice.
The interview setting I would use would be an office that is warm, comfortable, and welcoming. The interview skills I would use to demonstrate to my client that I am interested in helping helping would be 1) to discuss the satisfaction of the outcome 2) I would self-reflect my effectiveness on the help I would give them 3) I would use my attitude to show them that they matter and I want to help them. When aiming to get a client to know I am sincere about helping them I would listen to them, watch the body language between both of us, keep my confidence and be specific on my language.
