In this discussion, you will complete a definitions exercise in which you will research and define common terms for this discipline. Your post should be written like a short paper, but you will submit this work to the Canvas discussion board provided for each module. You are not required to reply to your peers in this discussion. However, you will want to read each post to prepare for the peer group discussion/feedback activity in the following module.
What is “Social Justice”?
Locate 3 distinct definitions/usages of the term “social justice” and provide a brief commentary on each one. These could come from academic sources, from popular news media, speeches of figures past or present, social movement activist groups (of any ideological variety), and so on. What is the context, meaning, and implication of each definition you found?
Be sure to include citation/source information. And be bold in your exploration. Don’t just go for low-hanging fruit (please, no dictionary definitions!) Look for definitions grounded in specific contexts, and from different political, cultural, and ideological perspectives.
Look for definitions that differ from one another and then try to make sense of them as a group.
Points awarded for timely completion with evident time, thoughtfulness, and care, not on the basis of “right” or “wrong” responses.
Please post your definitions to your assigned small peer group. In module 4, you will have a discussion about the definitions you found. Note: You may use definitions/usages found in assigned learning materials (i.e. you do not need to do any outside research unless you want to). You may not use basic dictionary definitions or Wikipedia.
Points awarded for showing effort in doing the assignment thoughtfully and carefully (not on right vs wrong). But check rubric!
