Topic and Explanation of Assignment:
For Project One, you will begin by identifying an area that is of particular interest to you and that you are genuinely curious about. It might be an academic field or subject area (e.g., Sociology, Physics, English/American literature, etc.), a profession (e.g., culinary/cooking or the food/restaurant industry, nursing or the medical/healthcare industry, criminal justice or law enforcement, etc.), a subculture (e.g., motorcycle clubs, gamers/gaming, Harry Potter fandom, etc.), or a belief system, ideology, or theoretical framework (e.g., evangelical Christianity, libertarianism, critical race theory, etc.)
Once you have chosen a particular area to explore, you will conduct research into it with the goals of learning more about it—for example, how it is defined and described, what it entails, what particular issues it deals with, what particular problems have emerged, etc.
In your research, you will conduct both general Web searches and specific database searches to locate and evaluate different kinds of sources, including more scholarly sources from academic and/or professional/trade journals.
You will then prepare an annotated research bibliography that includes an introductory paragraph and annotated entries for no fewer than five relevant and appropriate sources on your area that you identified in your research. The introduction and the annotations should be no fewer than 150 words each. (The bibliographic information in the entries will not be included in the word count.)
The annotated research bibliography should be titled “Annotated Research Bibliography.” (Do not put the title in quotation marks.)
The introduction should include the following three things. 1) A concise description of your selected research area. 2) A brief explanation of how/why you chose this area and what your interest in it is. 3) A brief description of how you conducted your research. All three aspects should be clear, specific, and precise.
Each entry in the bibliography should include the following. 1) Complete and correctly formatted documentation of the source. 2) An annotation in which you a) identify the intended audience and purpose of the source, b) summarize the content of the source, c) assess the authority, credibility and reliability of the source, and d) discuss the potential value of the source to fellow researchers. (You should skip a line down from the bibliographic entry before you begin the annotation.)

Audience:
You should consider your classmates and instructor to be your academic audience. Write on a scholastic, professional level. Assume that you are sharing your bibliography with fellow researchers who share an interest in the area that you are exploring as well as others who do not have any specialized knowledge or understanding of that area.
Assignment Requirements:
Length of Assignment: a minimum of 900 words. (This word-count applies only to main text—i.e., the text of the introduction and the annotations. It does not include a heading, the title, or the bibliographic information in the source entries.)
General Format: Apply MLA formatting requirements to set up the bibliography. (See the attached Sample Template for more specific guidelines.)
Research: Your annotated bibliography should include entries for no fewer than five sources. At least three of the five sources should come from the WTCC databases on the library website.
Weight/Percentage: The Annotated Research Bibliography will be 15% of your overall course grade.
