Proposal to address the problem

One observation is that the acute care setting presents an area with high risks of CAUTI infections. In most instances, poor hygiene and handling procedures are the primary causes of CAUTI infections. This initiative is concerned with providing the necessary resources to treat patients with urinary tract infections. This intervention ensures that the necessary standards and procedures are followed when handling the associated patients. In this bundle, numerous elements should be considered.

One such resource is hand hygiene. Hygiene is associated with increased risks of CAUTIs. Advocating hygienic practices by enforcing hand-washing interventions minimises the associated risks. The second element is creating a checklist to define the correct procedures for

handling catheters. Creating a checklist ensures that practitioners understand the steps and practices to follow when dealing with patients who need catheter treatment interventions. Understanding the standard requirements is evidence-based and ensures minimal risks of infections.

On the other hand, it is worth implementing strategic resources that will equip the nursing teams with education and awareness about catheter maintenance. In most cases, poor handling and maintenance practices are linked with increased infection risks for patients in the acute setting.
