Am I willing to firmly explain to newcomers the limitations of AA help, even though they may get mad at me for not giving them a loan?
The Host name was Janet and it was her 6 years clean (we must include in her name)
Tradition Five: Each group has but one primary purpose—to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers. 1. Am I willing to firmly explain to newcomers the limitations of AA help, even though they may get mad at me for not giving them a loan? Or dating advice? Or help with a job? 2. Have I ever imposed on any AA member for a special favor or consideration simply because I am a fellow alcoholic? 3. Am I willing to Twelfth-Step the next newcomer without regard to who or what is in it for me? 4. Do I help my group in every way to fulfill our primary purpose? 5. Do I remember that AA long-timers, too, can be alcoholics who still suffer? Do I try both to help them and to learn from them? 6. Does our group ever use money from the basket for dinners or events or for memorials for members who have passed on?
You will attend an open AA meeting and submit a reflection paper which should be 2-3 pages long, typed, double-spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman. Despite the fact that this paper is designed to reflect your thinking process, it must cite at least one external source to help you to develop an informed opinion based on facts and not biases. The reference must be legitimate and fully referenced (i.e. no Wikipedia and no blogs). This paper is to be written using APA format. Grammar and spelling will count. These reflection papers are to be used as proof of you meeting standards and
therefore must be thoughtful and meaningful. The paper should include the following criteria:
Date, time, and location of the meeting as well as the first name of the Group Leader
Describe in detail the demographics of the group population (gender, age, education level/ career path, etc)
Discuss the group dynamics you observed during the meeting (who spoke, what type of interaction did the group members have with one another)
What Step or Tradition was read at the meeting (be sure to include the words, not just the number).
After attending the group meeting, has your perception of addiction changed? How will you utilize this experience when engaging in therapeutic communication with your patients who suffer from this disease?
DO NOT INCLUDE NAMES IN YOUR REFLECTION (except for the requirement in criteria #1).
Submissions received after the due date and time are considered late and will NOT be accepted. Student will receive a zero for the assignment.
The rubric that will be used for grading this assignment is included.
I have also attached the AA 12 steps, AA 12 Traditions, and a fact sheet about AA that you may find helpful.
