Below, please cite at least one specific textual, visual and/or thematic similarity between the Gorman inaugural poem and Gast’s painting, Frost’s poem, and/or Schoolhouse Rock.
Please then also respond to a classmate’s post.
”The Frost poem talks about how the land is “ours,” the people’s, and how the land was ours way before we were lands. We waited til we saw that it was ourselves that was holding us back from taking our land for ourselves again.
The Gorman poem talks about our struggles to get our land. She talks about how we could be better as a union but should strive to be a purposeful union. She also mentions that we should put our differences aside and look at what’s before us, not behind us. Being American is more than a pride that we inherit. It is a past that we get into and how we repair it.
Those are just notes, but the truth is that, as Americans, this is our country, and we should try our hardest to make this a better place for all of us. The reality is that. There will always be many races and people in this country, and we need to help each other by offering what we can from our own culture and understanding and better the land that is ours. That is a vast view of what they both truly were speaking about. Ultimately, they want peace between all the people of the free third world. ”
