This course is based upon service learning that incorporates the concepts of civic responsibility and servant leadership through acting locally, nationally, or internationally to explore social problems that impact social determinants of health. Students in this course will participate in simulations as well as complete practicum hours in a variety of community settings based on an area and/or population of interest to them. The experience builds on the material presented in NUR 3316 Population & Global Health. Students in this course will complete 90 practicum hours. Course Objectives Upon completion of the course, the student will: 1. Demonstrate clinical judgment that integrates nursing knowledge, liberal arts, and natural/social sciences when delivering nursing care to vulnerable populations. 2. Foster human flourishing through the delivery of holistic, ethical, developmentally appropriate, person-centered care that extends compassion to vulnerable populations. 3. Deliver just and equitable care to adults that considers health promotion strategies. 4. Integrate evidence-based practice that includes guidelines, policies, and standards of care. 5. Deliver safe, quality care to vulnerable populations in partnership with the interprofessional team. 6. Students will participate in 45 hours of virtual simulations to reflect real life situations of the vulnerable population experiences. P Pass F Fall Student Responsibilities Practicum Attendance: It is expected that each student completes their practicum hours, all simulations, and debriefings as scheduled. Failure to complete the 90 hours for this course may result in course failure. Students will complete a total of 45 practicum hours at their scheduled community site. Hours are scheduled with the site directly. Students must arrive on time and adhere to site specific dress code. Students participating in a Global Outreach experience will receive 45 practicum hours on the trip. o A student who is unable to report to a practicum assignment is to notify the site and the course faculty at least one hour before the practicum is to begin. o A student who is unable to report to attend their Global Outreach experience due to an extenuating circumstance should notify the course faculty immediately. The student will receive an incomplete for the course until alternative arrangements are made. o Students are expected to carefully review the course syllabus, ACA 1.04: Nursing Student Dress Code, and ACA 1.02 Essential Technical Standards for Nursing Students to be familiar with all requirements and expectations for their participation in practicum each week.
