INSTRUCTIONS

There are times when you will use the tools developed by another agency to support your public health work. For this assignment, you will make yourself familiar with a commonly used tool. You will then develop an SOP for your staff that describes the tool and ways to use it.

Begin by getting acquainted with the BRFSS Prevalence & Trends Data tool linked in the Resources. Use it to conduct a public health needs assessment on the state of your choice.

Next, develop an SOP that explains how to use this tool to conduct a public health needs assessment for any state.

For this assignment complete the following steps to create an SOP:

Describe the public health tool being used. Explain when and why it would be used.

Identify things employees need to know about using this tool.

Provide step-by-step instructions for using the tool, including how to navigate to a specific state in the tool.

Identify 10 indicators for measuring public health that are available in the tool. Explain what each indicator measures.

Explain why indicators for measuring public health are needed to complete a community health needs assessment (CHNA).

Include screen captures or images in places where they are useful in illustrating the process.

Review the scoring guide prior to developing and submitting your assignment to ensure you meet all evaluation criteria.
