Demonstrate the ability to recognize and apply at least two media effects theory to a television series (at least 1 episode of an hour in length, or 2 episodes if 30-minute episodes) and describe how it may influence viewers’ attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.
Hello, I have attached the whole grading shit and template instructions for this assignment, I basically need two seperate documents, an outline and the final assignment but you will see in the document I have attatched. I believe this is a fairly easy assignment and should not take too long.
Requirements: 4-6 pages
COMM 309 Project #2: Application Project Guidelines For your final assignment, you will provide an application of the theories discussed over the course. You should demonstrate the ability to recognize and apply at least two media effects theory to a television series (at least 1 episode of an hour in length, or 2 episodes if 30-minute episodes) and describe how it may influence viewers’ attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. You will submit a brief outline of the paper (1 page) and then a final paper (3-5 pages). You may select from the following theories (must use at least 2): • Social Learning/Social Cognitive Theory • Media Priming • Cognitive Information Processing Model • Excitation Transfer Theory • Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development • Elaboration Likelihood Model • Cultivation Theory • Agenda Setting Theory • Social Identity Theory For your analysis, please choose a television series (watch roughly 1 hour in length, may have to watch 2 episodes) from the following list: • What We Do in the Shadows (Hulu) • Derry Girls (Netflix) • Reservation Dogs (Hulu) • Euphoria (HBO Max) • Barry (HBO Max) • Parks and Recreation (Peacock) • Severance (Apple TV+) You may also suggest a television series of your own, but you must be ready to argue WHY you should be able to use that show, rather than one from the list above, in the project outline. PROJECT OUTLINE (5 points): In your project outline of 1 page in length, I would like you to address the following points (either paragraphs or bullet points): • What show you will analyze (if you are using a show outside of the above list, provide brief justification for why it is a good choice) • What theories you will use for this project and a brief synopsis of those theories • What effects on attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors can we expect based on your understanding of the show? You will be awarded five points if your outline is generally on the right track, uploaded by the deadline, and follows formatting and grammatical conventions.
Formatting: 1-page, double-spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font APPLICATION PAPER (80 points): In a 3-5-page paper, you will: 1. Introduce your TV show, explaining the basic plot and main characters (~ ½-1 page). Make sure you describe some of the key details from the episode(s) you viewed. 2. Explain each theory. This should not be just a restatement of the course concepts; it should show you understand the basic assumptions of the theory and how it applies to your show (~ ½-1 page each). 3. Describe how the TV show could affect a viewer’s attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Specific examples from the television show or film should be used to support your claims and exemplify your understanding of the theory. You may want to incorporate other features of the episodes other than just the plot and characters, such as discussions of the age rating, or examinations of the representation (quantity and/or quality) within the show (~1-2 pages). We are looking for depth and a clear connection between the episode, the theory, and the effects identified. The paper should be well-organized and well-argued. It should be coherent and adhere to standard grammatical conventions. Formatting: 3-5-pages, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12 point font The rubric is below:
