Your assignment is for you to identify an ethical issue involving a publicly traded company in the past 5 years (select any publicly traded company you wish to do your research on—be sure that the company is publicly traded before you proceed with your research). You have the option to work on the project individually or as part of a group of up to 3 students (be sure to include everyone’s name). You will be required to submit a typed report following these guidelines: Your report MUST include the following side headings: 1. History and Ethical Practices (provide the history of the company and its ethical practices. What evidence did you find to support that the company is ethical/or unethical. Who are the stakeholders impacted by the company’s practices?) 2. Ethics and Social Responsibility (does the company have an ethics statement on their website/publication? Can you find evidence of the existence of an ethics office/committee/officer? What is the company’s social responsibility statement/views? Is there evidence that the company is socially responsible? Explain.) 3. Ethical Issue (what ethical issue(s) has the company faced? How did the company react? Was the company’s action justified? How were the stakeholders affected?) 4. Consequences (what are the consequences resulting from the ethical issue(s) the company faced? What was the impact on the company’s finances, reputation, operation, and stakeholder groups?) 5. Environmental Scan (scan the industry/environment the company is in and provide information about similar issues other companies have encountered. How did they deal with the situation? Was it similar to the actions taken by your company? What conclusions would you draw as a result of the comparison?) 6. Legal Issues (what are the laws/regulations governing this type of issue? Are these laws/regulations enough to deter unethical practices? Are the laws/regulations enforced uniformly? Is there a need to make changes to these existing laws?) 7. Findings and Recommendations (What are your finding? what recommendations would you give the company to prevent a similar issue(s) from impacting the company negatively in the future? What are the lessons learned from this experience?) • The purpose of your research is to provide you with an opportunity to learn more about ethics and social responsibility in business. Approach this term project with an open mind and purpose. Provide details and be specific and make your research and report meaningful. In order to do so, you have to start working on your project early and systematically. Set the expectations, a time line, and a contingency plan as soon as you assemble your team so the quality of your work is reflected in your report. • All group members must participate in the preparation of the written report and each section start with the group member’s name who is responsible for completing that part. • Your report must be TYPED, double-spaced, use Times New Roman size 12 font for body of report.
