Impression Management Exercise | PUBH 6021 | Weeks 4 – 6
Purpose: In Section 6 of your ILDP (Tools, Technology, and Other Resources to support your learning and development), you have the opportunity to consider how various tools influence your impression management with others. The purpose of this exercise is to move more beyond yourself and to consider the perceptions of others so you may better manage those perceptions. More specifically, your goal is to learn what impression these tools are making on one of your peers.
Instructions:
During Live Session 4, select a “reviewer” within your learning community. This person doesn’t need to be your closest friend in the group or even someone you regularly interact with outside of 6021. Rather, select someone who may see things differently from you and may be able to offer you perspectives you would otherwise miss. Record your name and your reviewer’s name below:
Your Name: Michael Hariman Your Reviewer’s Name:
Additionally, during Live Session 4, choose/mark which of the following impression management tools below you would like for your reviewer to explore (i.e., choose as many as you would like):
Before the end of Live Session 4, send this form (with the names filled out and marked options above) to your reviewer.
Give your reviewer access to the impression management tools you selected if they don’t already have access.
(After Live Session 4, but before Live Session 6)
Reviewer: Explore your reviewee’s checked impression management tools. Please note: your reviewee may not be the same person as your reviewer, but they do need to be someone in your learning community. Also, each person should only serve as the reviewer for one other person. Answer the questions below and return to your reviewee by Live Session 6.
