Addiction among teens has become a significant challenge, common addictions include social media, pornography, shopping, gambling, gaming disorder and substance abuse. Boys are more addicted to gaming, pornography and gambling, while girls are more addicted to food, shopping and social media. However, the most common addiction is substance abuse. According to a 2008 drug abuse and prevalence study, 13% of people involved in drug and substance abuse are below 20 years (Nebhinani et al., 2022). Adolescents are vulnerable to initiating any addiction because they are in a risky experimental stage of development. Therefore, this research paper will explore evidence-based intervention to prevent teen addiction and halt the progression of those already addicted.
Problem Statement
Teen addiction significantly impacts the population, it contributes to withdrawal symptoms, loss of interest in hobbies and other activities, challenges in dealing with schoolwork, changes in friendships, anxiety, mood swings, depression and anger. Many teens do not understand that they have addiction disorders, and when they do, they think they can kick the problem without help. Nonetheless, kicking the problem on their own is difficult, and they need to find someone to talk to. Psychotherapists are helpful and understanding; they will help the teen overcome the addiction in confidential discussions. Addiction is not easy. Therefore, they need to understand how difficult the recovery process is and the factors contributing to teens’ addiction.

Literature Review
Addiction begins when a person cannot control their habits, it can be psychological, physical, or a combination. Adolescence is a crucial development stage involving social, biological and psychological development, this stage is involved with teens' addiction and associated outcomes (Gray & Squeglia, 2018). Addiction, mostly substance abuse, is informed by peers, adult behaviors, social media and other avenues that influence the advances of addiction. Teen addiction is associated with health problems (mostly for substance abuse), poor peer relationships, academic problems and juvenile systems involvement. According to Frobel et al. (2022), several factors contribute to teenage addiction, most teenagers succumb to peer pressure, lack of knowledge of the significant impacts of their habits, and family issues which lead to low monitoring, boredom and availability.
Drug abuse is a global problem, and its use has been more common among teens, mostly for hard drugs. According to Nawi et al. (2021), young people are likelier to die of drug abuse. Therefore, teen addiction affects the individual, the community, family members, and friends. Members of these teens feel embarrassed, suffer from emotional damage, shame and guilt. Moreover, those seeking professional support drain their family resources, which can lead to bankruptcy or financial hardship. There is a correlation between addictions such as drug abuse and delinquency, teens get arrested and are sent to juvenile facilities. These facilities deny society an opportunity to benefit from the teen's input.
In a study by Frobel et al. (2022), addiction reduces the quality of life and causes behavioral difficulties among teens, addictions such as pornography, gambling, and video gaming affect teens' productivity. There are various treatment options for teen addiction, personal counselling, educational services, group counselling, vocational services, family services and mental health treatment. These options depend on the type of teen addiction, and in most circumstances, family involvement is crucial for successful programs. According to Hogue et al. (2021), families are not mostly involved in teen’s addiction recovery process, this research shows that family-based models are effective in recovery support. Getting your teenage child to open up about addiction is very important; although not all of them will, it is important to ask and listen to them, explore the reasons for addiction, and explore how to intervene. The best way is to be friendly, be mindful of family history, mostly on drug and substance use disorders and make values clear.
Social workers are vital in teen addiction rehabilitation, the most crucial part of the social worker is focusing on the teen’s environment. Adolescent addiction remains a critical public health challenge with short and long-term adverse effects (Nair et al., 2022). Therefore, social workers must collaborate with healthcare policies to address trauma and addiction which have psychological and mental impacts. The most appropriate step in addiction counselling is to include role models, the addiction itself and family. The personal environment is the leading predictor of addiction, guiding the counsellor into the most appropriate measures for the teenager.
Methodology
To maintain consistency in research, this study will explore a collaborative approach, which will include engaging all stakeholders involved in teen guidance. The research will use mixed methods for generalizable results by giving teens, teachers and parents’ voices in the data. To determine teen addiction activities, two variables will be used: the teen's age (child or adolescent) and the sex of the teenager (male or female). According to López-Aymes et al. (2021), all participants should be in the same conditions and confinement, the social worker will also guarantee confidentiality to the teens because some addictions, such as pornography and gambling, are stigmatized.
The data analysis will explore teen addiction and their environment. To understand if there is a significant difference between the teen and addiction, we will analyze data on teens with both parents and those raised by a single parent or a guardian. We will also explore the nature of their friends, which is a significant factor in teen addiction due to peer pressure. The data will be collected through teens, and parents’ focus groups and qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the data.
