Good evening my fellow peers,
The organization I work for most closely aligns with the servant leadership theory. I have worked this field of serving for over 19 years now, and I can honestly say I love it and would not change anything unless it takes the organization to a higher standard our community. Looking at several theories, I would have to say servant leadership is the best part of loving what you do best. Leaders are looking to bring out the best in every employee, not just themselves. Leaders want to experience growth with their employees, and will be their to support them, and look for suggestions from the employees in order to become better leaders. "The servant-leader is servant first….It begins with natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first."-Robert K. Greenleaf (greenleaf.org). Robert K. Greenleaf also quotes, "Servant Leadership is a non-traditional leadership philosophy, embedded in a set of behaviors and practices that place the primary emphasis on the well-being of those being served." (greenleaf.org) I do feel the most sweetest and precious sense of peace working for this organization, and the theory of servant leadership is the most appropriate for our organization.
I feel the current leadership theory is effective, and is a good fit because we are front and center when it comes to caring for Adults and Children with Intellectual Disabilities and Special Needs. We as servant leaders know what it takes to love and care for someone who can't tell you thank you for serving them, we know what the loved ones say when they see a smile on the disabled child's face. We as employees are the hands, ears, eyes and faces they see every morning when the individuals are dropped off for us to be a good servant to their loved ones daily. As the leader of my organization, I take time to hear things, to get involved and work hands on with the individuals as well. I am not to good to get dirty, I want to exemplify what I want to see out of my employees. I have heard several times from my employees of how much they appreciate having someone as myself for a Leader and how I am always positive in showing them how to be better and to remain humble in everything. I make sure that I keep an open door policy, and always lend a listening ear, and helping hand. My motto is serving others to get the greater reward later. And yes I think the leadership theory that is in place should remain in place.
Hello everyone, the organization that I work for closely aligns with both transformational and servant leadership styles. I chose transformational because I work in healthcare and everyone in the hospital no matter what department or level you are in share one common goal, patient care. Our leaders help their staff and organization to be the best at meeting our patient's needs and the needs of the community. I also had to choose servant leadership because they invest time, money, and resources into recruiting, training, and retaining their staff. They ensure that they are readily available to staff to help address and correct any concerns. They also make sure that they are giving feedback and praise whenever possible. Another reason why I say that they are servant leaders is because they always ensure that they take advantage of teachable moments. If they see an opportunity for an employee to learn then they will take the time to teach them.
I believe that both of these styles of leadership works for my organization. As for the transformational leadership, I believe that they take our common goal and do what it takes to make sure that we maintain consistent at providing exceptional patient care. If they see an opportunity to do this in a better way, such as training our staff on different treatment strategies, then they will implement it. They take the time to not just implement, but they will pilot the change and meet with staff to ensure that it is working and that staff are comfortable making the changes. Throughout the implementation process they continuously ask for feedback and offer training and development for those that need it. As for the servant leadership, I also believe that this should stay in place because when you invest in the development of your staff and you are supportive and empathetic to their needs, in return they will be motivated to work and provide results.
