Prompt
As part of the historical record, what makes this legal document fascinating for academic study? In general terms, what can you learn about any civilization through its laws? In this case specifically, what can you deduce about the values and primary concerns of the people during the time of the Old Babylonian Empire? Why is it clear that this culture lived at least partly in an early urban setting? Environmentally, how might desert life have informed the creation as well as enforcement of this tome? Excluding Leviticus 24:17-23, what similarities do you notice between Hammurabi and the Old Testament book?
