Item 2
Scenario:
The mission of The Growing Place Child Development Center ensures that all infant/toddler staff understand the integral role of relationships and attachment in healthy development. Young children are placed in groups with the same primary caregivers, as much as possible, throughout the time they are enrolled at the center. Rather than evaluate children only in specific areas of development, staff are encouraged to share examples with family members of how children are growing and learning in each of the developmental domains while also sharing with families the general knowledge of the developmental continuum. This information forms the basis for designing learning experiences and frames staff interactions with children. When a family member expresses concern that his/her child is not progressing as quickly as other children, staff take time to explain who the child is as an individual with respect for his or her unique strengths and challenges.
Analyze, using examples, how four of the NAEYC Principles of Child Development and Learning are informing the practice at The Growing Place. (2–3 paragraphs)
