Quote: “Of those districts with students enrolled in online distance education courses, 92 percent had students accessing online courses from school, 60 percent had students accessing online courses from home, and 8 percent had students accessing online courses from some other location.”
Paraphrase: According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2003), 92 percent of students in online distance education courses accessed their classes from school, 60 percent from home, and 8 percent from another location.
Integrated Quote: According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2003), “Of those districts with students enrolled in online distance education courses, 92 percent had students accessing online courses from school, 60 percent had students accessing online courses from home, and 8 percent had students accessing online courses from some other location.”
A paraphrase would be better in this case because the exact words don’t matter. Only quote when the exact words need to be emphasized. In this case, the statistics matter but not the exact words, so a paraphrase works best.
