Effective, ethical and moral leaders know it is not the stance on an issue that is most important; it is the why behind the what you stand for (Boyd & Strong, 2020). You have learned a leader must move from a solely ethnocentric view to understanding and acknowledging alternative points of view (Strong, 2021a). To help you practice ethical decision making and effective ethical communication, you will research the alternative views on an ethical and moral situation that we identified in class (list of approved topics to come after our discussion).

This assignment requires you to take a position on one of the controversial topics identified in class. You may only choose from this list. You will need to provide some background about the issue before arguing your personal ethical position. In other words, what is the ethical issue? You are to take a position on the topic and describe why you think your position is ethical/moral, using facts and examples that youve researched. You are to then support your position with one or two of the moral theories/models we have discussed in class. The theories are relativism, objectivism, altruism, egoism, utilitarianism, Kantianism, and social contract theory. THEN, you are to describe the opposite position from the one you took (the counter position), using facts that you have researched. What moral theory supports that side of the argument?

Finally, you must engage your Neoteric critical thinking skills and develop an alternative stance. Remember, the truth is usually in between the two poles, and effective leaders find the trilemma of the situation (Strong, 2021b). Define and describe this third position using facts and examples from your research. Support your new stance with one or two moral theories/models we have discussed in ALED 424. Advocate for why this is the best position using facts.

Your paper is to be a minimum of three and a maximum of six double-spaced pages, NOT including your title page and references. You must cite the class notes and text when discussing class content. In addition to the class notes, a minimum of eight additional sources are required. Your sources must be credible and not opinion or emotional works. You may not use Wikipedia as a source. You will need internal citations and a reference list that follows APA style (7th edition).
