An Infographic of the World
This is an individual assignment that will be submitted on Canvas. You will choose a region (or regions) that we have covered during the course, highlight a specific environmental, political, economic, and/or social issue, and draw connections to the U.S., the Greater Miami area. This written portion does not have a minimum word requirement. However, please be sure to:
1. )Clearly identify the region(s) you are engaging with for this paper.
2.) Define and describe the issues of the region(s) that you are highlighting. Explain the impacts of these issues: environmental, political, economic, social, cultural, etc. For instance, if I completed this assignment on Thailands fishing industry, I could describe how important this industry is to the countrys GDP, how it attracts migrant workers from SE and South Asia, has negatively impacted the biodiversity of the regions waters, has resulted in slave labor and human rights abuses, etc.
3.) Explicitly draw connections back to the U.S., Miami, and or explain how these issues are completely isolated to that region. Continuing with above example of the Thai seafood industry, Western consumers contribute to the exploitation of migrant workers by creating pressure for cheap products, and ultimately, perpetuate a cycle of labor abuse.
4.) Based on your research, conclude by arguing whether you believe the world is increasing interdependence and integration toward a global society or becoming more independent/nationalistic? In other words, based on what we have covered this semester and the research that you have completed to write this paper, do you find that the world is becoming more or less globalized?
Once you have completed the written portion, I am asking you to submit a simple infographic on the issue you have selected. Infographics are visual representations of data and information that are simplified and expressed in forms of graphics — images, icons, symbols, charts, tables, timelines, and maps. The purpose of infographics is to deliver knowledge in clear, quick, and intuitive ways to readers. You can create your infographic using the blank PowerPoint template that is available on Canvas or any appropriate template you find online (just Google: free infographic template). On your infographic, be sure to include:
A title for your infographic
Your name
The selected issue
Statistics, facts, and/or maps related to your issue
An effective infographic poster should be a) informative, b) easy to understand, and c) aesthetically pleasant. Please note, I am not looking for an overly elaborate infographic.
