(Student, dressed professionally, greets David with a friendly smile and invites him to have a seat in the office.)
Social worker: Hi David, it's nice to meet you. Thank you for coming to talk to me today. Can you tell me a little bit about what brought you here?
David: (nervously) well, there's this kid at school who's been picking on me. He makes fun of me because I have ADHD and I have trouble focusing in class.
Social worker: I'm sorry to hear that, David. It sounds like that's been really tough for you. Can you tell me more about what's been going on?
(David goes into more detail about the bullying incidents)
Social worker: Thank you for sharing that with me, David. I can understand why you're upset. I want you to know that I'm here to help you. Before we talk more about that, I'd like to make sure you understand what to expect from our services. Is that okay with you?
David: Yeah, sure.
Social worker: (Explains confidentiality and the social work intern's role in clear, age-appropriate language. Confirms that David understands)
Social worker: Now, let's talk about the bullying. I want you to know that I take this very seriously. It's not okay for anyone to treat you this way. I want to offer you some services that might help you feel better and stay safe at school. We can work together to come up with a plan that makes sense for you. What do you think about that?
David: (appears relieved) that sounds good.
Social worker: Great! I want to make sure I understand what you're hoping to get out of our services. Can you tell me a little bit about that?
David: (thinks for a moment) Well, I just want the bullying to stop. And I want to be able to make friends and not feel so alone.
Social worker: Those are really important goals. I think we can definitely help you with the bullying, and we can work on the social piece too. It might be helpful for us to set up some meetings so we can talk more about what's been happening and what we can do to support you. Would that be okay?
David: (nods)
Social worker: Okay, I'm going to make a referral for us to meet again next week. In the meantime, here's my card. If anything comes up and you need to talk, you can call or email me anytime. Does that sound good?
David: Yeah, thank you.
Social worker: Of course. And just remember, everything we talk about is confidential, unless there's a risk of harm to yourself or someone else. Otherwise, what we talk about stays between us.
David: (nods)
Social worker: Alright, David. Thank you for coming in today. I'm looking forward to working with you.
(David gets up to leave and Student escorts him to the door)
