Assignment Overview
With today’s saturation of technology and social media, staying current can be a daunting task, but it is essential to your success and effectiveness as an I/O professional. Toward this purpose, you should be aware of and strive to learn about the latest research and about what others are doing; conversely, you should also be aware of opportunities to share your own knowledge and experiences with others. Professional associations such as SIOP and SHRM host conferences as a way to nurture this mutual exchange of learning and teaching.
In this assignment, we ask you to imagine the “future you.” You have graduated with your I/O degree, and as an I/O professional, you have been invited to prepare a session that fits the theme of “I/O + HR = Workplace Solutions.” Individuals attending this conference are your peers in various roles in I/O and in human resources—both practitioners and scholars from various industries.

Thank you for agreeing to be a presenter at our upcoming conference, “I/O +HR = Workplace Solutions.” It is our strategy to reach out to I/O Psychologists and practitioners such as yourself to help our HR professionals ground their operations in well-researched I/O principles and theory. Within your area of expertise, please provide your recommendations for the strategic level and daily practices, keeping in mind our participants attend from all various industries. Cite key findings from your research. Submit your infographic (poster content) by the deadline for review and thank you for your participation in our annual conference.
The first thing you should read is The SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK). This document describes the HR management areas and how these areas work individually and as a whole. Use the SHRM BoCK to guide your topic selection as you see fit.

In this assignment, your deliverable is a 3–4 page paper that addresses the following:
An introduction to the topic area within HR that you will present for the conference.
An initial literature review supported by at least five scholarly references.
A discussion of why this topic is timely and relevant.
At least two I/O theories that have been identified as a framework for your analysis.
Your instructor and peers will provide you with feedback on your topic, so that you can continue to make necessary modifications. Your topic should be appropriate to the field of psychology as applied to personnel and human resource management.
Assignment Instructions
Since the conference theme is so broad, you need to do research and investigate I/O and HR topics in order to define and hone a topic for your project. Remember that the full literature review you submit (in Unit 6) will be based on the topic and initial review you complete in this unit.
To complete this assignment, you will need to review at least five scholarly articles and select a topic that addresses the following:
Select a topic that applies I/O psychology theories, concepts, and tools to a contemporary human resource area. Your topic should be relevant and timely. Other ways to approach this topic selection task is to scan current events, scan the SHRM and SIOP Web sites, to detect current workplace issues or what the experts are saying about future workplace issues and trends. Don’t forget that your topic needs to align with the conference theme: “I/O + HR = Workplace Solutions.”
Analyze peer-reviewed articles (five or more) on psychological theories (at least two) of personnel and human resource management. Your review should include an initial search on psychological theories as related to personnel and HR management areas. Compare the theoretical similarities and differences between I/O psychology and HR management. After your analysis, include an evaluation of at least two theories to convey a balanced perspective and determine the validity and credibility of the research, et cetera. You are required to review at least five peer-reviewed articles on two psychological theories of personnel and HR.
Analyze the foundational models, concepts, and practices of personnel and human resource management. Your review should also include trends, models, concepts, and practices that have emerged from the research. Include a discussion on the similarities and differences of these concepts between I/O and HR management. An evaluation of these models, concepts, and practices will help you to further define and hone in on your topic.
