You have been called into room 7 where Arial Grover a 54 year old women is sitting up in bed, she has pressed the buzzer and you have attended to her. You notice her colour to be pale and she is diaphoretic. She is complaining of not feeling well. You notice she is speaking in short sentences and holding her chest, you ask her if she has pain and she states she is just finding it hard to breathe. You tell her you are going to check her observations, you record the following;
RR – 28
SpO2 – 91% (on room air)
BP – 88/60
HR – 125
Temp 38.8
Pain – 6/10
BGL – 8.2mmol/L
Capillary refill < 3 sec
Arial has a history of HT, otherwise well, she was admitted for a Left knee replacement in which she had surgery on 2 days ago. She has no IVF running and is on a full diet.
When you complete her observations, you find she requires a rapid response, you also decide to start her on the sepsis pathway as she fits the criteria.
