Bailey-It seems in the past few years, social norms have changed so much. Growing up, I attended a Lutheran grade school and high school, so things were presented to me a bit different every day. We had strict rules to follow with dress codes and punishments were much more serious than in a public school setting. Our society has changed and evolved so much, there is now a lot of inclusion and respect that should be had for others. It is now important to be mindful of others around you and their beliefs. Since being in college, it has been a much different atmosphere than when I was in high school. We are expected to have proper classroom netiquette and conform to others opinions and beliefs. It is ok to have your own opinions, but it is expected to respect others opinions as well.
Kendall-When growing up one social morn that I was taught was respect and to always be respectful even at the hardest points. My mother and father would always tell me to treat people the way I would want people to treat me. They would also tell me to stick up for myself and others in certain situations. I was taught to be polite and have manners. Always say please, thank you, you’re welcome, and bless you to name a few. My parents taught me that lying, cheating and stealing was not ok and to not do it and be around people that do. I feel like these simple social norms made me a better person as I was growing up and really shows why I am the person I am today. I feel like some of these social norms are much similar to Northwood’s social norms. Right in our syllabus it tells us that plagarism is not tolerated and there are consequences when doing it. I feel like the syllabus really does a good job and discussing the social norms for Northwood.
