Word Limit
Writing succinctly is an important skill in academic writing. Keep strictly to word limits as no allowance will be given. Any content written beyond the word limit will not be marked.
Tables, figures, and in-text citations are included in the word count whilst the reference list and
appendices are not.
English Competency
Most TMAs have 5% of the total marks allocated to assessing English competency. It is important that you use an appropriate academic writing style, and write clearly using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. British spelling is recommended.
Referencing
Follow the APA7 format as described in the “PSY Referencing Guide”. Appropriate in-text
citations and an accurately formatted Reference section are expected. FIVE (5) marks have
been allocated for this component. More information about formatting in APA7 can be found
in the APA website: http://www.apastyle.org/index.aspx.
Plagiarism and Collusion
The University takes a very serious view of plagiarism and collusion. Both are very serious
academic offences. The definitions and penalties of plagiarism are outlined in your Student
Handbook under Academic Rules and Regulations.
All assignments are to be completed on your own. You may discuss the TMA with your course-
mates, but the assignment must be written up independently. Do not share your notes, draft or
final TMA with anyone before the marked TMAs are returned to you. You are strongly advised
to submit your TMA early and review the plagiarism report yourself, and if needed, revise and
resubmit your TMA before the submission deadline.
Avoid plagiarism by giving yourself sufficient time to research and understand the material
so that you can write up your assignment in your own words. Quotations should be used
sparingly. Simply citing the source of ‘copied’ chunks of text does not excuse it from
plagiarism. You should be aware that you also cannot reuse your own work – such as parts of
an assignment that you have submitted either to another course or to the same course – as this
constitutes self-plagiarism. Ensure that all paraphrasing is done appropriately.
Essay (90 marks)
The changing nature of work is a key trend in organizational psychology. Every year, the
Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) lists the SIOP Top 10 Workplace
Trends: https://www.siop.org/Business-Resources/Top-10-Work-Trends
1. Choose ONE of the following trend:
• Employer’s Role in Employees’ Mental Health
• Managing the transition into post-pandemic work
2. Choose ONE of the following topic:
• Job analysis
• Employee Recruitment, Selection, and Placement
• Assessing and selecting employees
• Evaluating employee performance
3. Write a 1,000-word-limit essay to discuss and examine how your chosen Trend relates to
your chosen Topic at your Workplace1.
(90 marks)
Additional notes/guidance/instructions:
• To do well, you need to integrate all three components: Trend + Topic + Workplace
E.g., How does [Trend] relate to [Topic] at your [Workplace]?
o In more detail: How does [the trend of Managing the transition into post-pandemic work] relate to [Assessing and selecting employees] at your
[marketing agency]?
• To answer this question, you will have to review information from your textbook on your chosen topic: a) Job analysis (Chapter 3), b) Employee Recruitment, Selection, and Placement (Chapter 4), c) Assessing and selecting employees (Chapter 5), d) Evaluating employee performance (Chapter 6).
• However, this will not be sufficient as the information in the textbook is limited and also unlikely to touch on this exact subject matter. You are required to do additional research and cite at least FIVE journal articles or book chapters of published books (excluding the textbook) for this question.
• Reading widely and beyond the textbook will add depth to your essay, and references to relevant research studies and examples will attract more marks. There is an abundance of credible resources that you can access from the library and Library e-Resources. Do note that internet references such as Wikipedia, SimplyPyschology.org, and online student papers are not counted as credible resources.
• You will need to cite all sources and provide complete references in APA 7 style.
• When planning and writing the essay, do remember that an analytical argument and critical evaluation will gain more marks than a descriptive essay.
Dear PSY201 T01 students,
I like to share with you some guidelines for TMA answers:
Good answers cover all the relevant points in a systematic and cogent manner. It would be presented very well, showing good knowledge of the subject matter.
Average answers cover some of the important areas but would not be very well presented. They may tend to be very factual and to the point.
Poor answers have some aspects of the answer missing or very poorly presented.
Answers that are irrelevant or badly presented without any indication of an understanding of the basic concepts will not pass.
You can refer to the marking guide in your TMA instructions for more details.
Some tips for TMAs

The flow of the essay—is it coherent, logical, systematic

Are all issues covered?
Does the conclusion logically draw in the arguments as discussed in the main body of the essay?
Do submit on time or earlier if possible
Double Spacing, computer typed
Keep to Word Limit. Please put in your word count at the end of your essay.
List your references with proper in-text citations
Make sure your have at least 5 references from journal articles or book chapters, excluding your textbook.
