Project Baseline
A project baseline outlines the initial point of the project. Project baselining is the creation of the initial plan that helps define the overall expectations, the stakeholders, and the deliverables within the projects. It helps with monitoring the project performance assessment and determines whether the project is on track toward achieving all the core performances and developments within the budget of the products. It also defines and identifies the areas within the project that may need improvements (Watt, 2014). It also helps assess any cost overruns and the potential scope creep that may lead to the project’s failures. The project baseline is essential as it directs the team on where to start implementing the project. They also help with fixing the reference points and measurements of the project comparisons and against the deliverables. The baseline is imported into training the performance, which leads to the completion of the project within the time stipulated in the plans. The integrations help with measurements of the baseline.
The factors within the project which are in the baseline are milestones, budget or cost, the schedule, and project scope. They are the main factors and constraints within the project. They help with the practical completion of the project, which will likely lead to better developments and end products for the project. The milestones in the project baseline are the key expectations. They define the project’s deliverables within the completion of different stages. It may refer to some deliverables at the steps in the implementation (Gido & Clements, 2014). That would be a milestone. It also sets the milestones it must achieve within a specific time. If the project takes a year, it cites the deliverables it targets within six or nine months. They are the milestones, and they are from the start to the end of the project. Milestones are essential in the assessment of the delivery of the project and also the final project achievements.
The project’s cost is the finances that are essential for the completion of the project. They refer to potential achievements that lead to successful project ends. The budget is the plan for allocating the funds within the project. Baselining the costs is part of budgeting. It helps with seeking finances and adequate allocations that are likely to lead to better and more effective ends for the product. The schedule refers to the allocated time for the start to end of activities within the project and also the overall project (Watt, 2014). It is essential to know the project’s duration during the project’s planning. The planning process is more effective in achieving better results for the project and the effective and efficient use of allocated time. Therefore, the project’s scope is in reference to project outcomes. It also refers to any deliverables and solving problems within the project. It is important to ensure the success of the project.

Discussion 2 By Karthikeyan Ponnambalam?
Baselining a project refers to setting a reference point or benchmark for measuring project performance against the established objectives and scope. The baseline includes specific items that represent the project’s original plan, which serves as a yardstick to measure and control project progress, schedule, and cost (Usmani, 2022). Baselining a project is capturing and documenting the initial project plan as a reference point for future performance measurement and control. In essence, it is the establishment of a baseline or a set of reference points against which progress can be measured, and deviations can be identified and corrected.
The following items are typically baselined in a project:
Project scope: The scope of the project defines the boundaries of the project, what is included, and what is excluded. It includes the project objectives, deliverables, milestones, and timelines. Baselining the project scope helps ensure that everyone is aligned on what the project is and what it aims to achieve.
Project schedule: The project schedule defines the timeline for each project task, the dependencies between tasks, and the critical path. It also includes project milestones and deadlines. Baselining the project schedule ensures that everyone is aware of the project timeline and can track progress against it.
Project budget: The project budget includes all the costs associated with the project, including labor, materials, and other expenses. Baselining the project budget helps ensure that everyone is aware of the project costs and can track progress against the budget.
Project quality: Project quality defines the standards and criteria for the project deliverables. It includes quality assurance and quality control processes. Baselining project quality ensures that everyone is aware of the quality standards and can track progress against them.
Project risks: Project risks are potential events or circumstances that could have an adverse impact on the project. Baselining project risks help ensure that everyone is aware of the potential risks and can take proactive measures to mitigate or manage them.
Project communication: Project communication includes the processes, tools, and techniques used to manage project communications. It includes stakeholder communication plans, status reports, and other communication tools. Baselining project communication ensures that everyone is aware of the communication plan and can track progress against it.
? ? ? ? ? Once the baseline has been established, any changes or variations to the project scope, schedule, or cost must be carefully evaluated against the baseline. To make modifications to project baselines, they must go via an integrated change control system and obtain permission. This allows project managers to identify and manage any deviations from the original plan and adjust to keep the project on track (Usmani, 2022).?
