Introduction
Three years after the dawn of the pandemic, the world is still experiencing its impact on normality. Although many restrictions have been lifted, people have decided to adopt some of the alternatives that were once frowned upon and disputed, as the new standard. Shopping is done online, pizza delivery is no longer the only delivery company on the road, and work is done in the comfort of your home. This phenomenon is no different in the field of healthcare.
Trends:
(Remote Healthcare)
Remote healthcare or as many of us know it telehealth or virtual healthcare, is one of the approaches to healthcare that has advanced in many forms since the start of the pandemic. Telehealth is the ability to monitor a patient’s health from home allowing physicians to manage a patient’s conditions while cutting down on financial costs of travel, in-person visits, and infection rates.
(Wearable Devices)
Medical devices are used in many diverse settings at home, by patients, and by healthcare professionals in offices or remote clinics for prevention and screenings. The use of wearable medical devices has increased over the years in the surge in consumers’ interest in monitoring their health and vital signs. Although consumers have been encouraged to purchase new gadgets such as the Apple Watch or Fitbit, individuals unknowingly grew comfortable managing their heart rate, burned calories, steps, and even women’s menstrual cycles.
(Disadvantages with Diagnosis and Care)
Some elements are hard to assess or diagnose in healthcare through telemedicine, retail healthcare, and wearable medical devices. However, there are solutions. Appointments conducted over the telephone increase possibility to miss visual observations needed for proper diagnosis. Appointments held in a retail healthcare facility may also lack proper assessment because they may not have all of the patient’s necessary health history.
Conclusion
There is little to no doubt that the pandemic has affected lives across the world in more ways than one. Healthcare is one of the fields that have been affected the most, as it is a necessity for everyone. With the fear of contagion, healthcare leaders and staff alongside patients have made huge technological changes and advancements that are still developing in 2023. Three popular trends in healthcare are telemedicine, retail healthcare, and wearable medical devices, all of which have flourished during the most recent pandemic age.
