The Joint Commission established its National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) program in 2002. The NPSGs were created to help organizations accredited by TJC to focus on specific high priority areas of national concern with respect to patient safety. These first NPSGs were implemented on January 1, 2003. The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) promote specific improvements in patient safety. Problematic areas in health care and healthcare delivery are targeted. Evidence- and expert-based solutions to these problems are proposed. Each year the Joint Commission identifies Patient Safety Goals for the following year. The 2023 NPSGs are included in this week’s module.
Please identify one of the 2022 NPSGs and discuss the goal and identify and describe evidence-based best practices that hospitals can engage to meet your chosen 2022 NPSG.
