Step One: Record all foods and beverages (including alcohol) that you consume for 5 days onto the “Nutrition Chart” page. Two of the days must be over the weekend. DO NOT change your eating/drinking habits. It is NOT necessary to record water or diet soda because they do not have any calories. If you did not consume any alcohol during this timeframe but did consume alcohol in the past month put the amount you drank in one of the 5 days that you are recording onto the chart.
Step Two: Make sure you are as accurate as possible in terms of the serving sizes consumed. For example, a serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards, which equals 2-3 ounces. A cup of pasta is approximately the size of a tennis ball. Read the food/beverage labels carefully to check what is stated as a serving size. The label usually under estimates how much a person actually eats and drinks. For example, the label of a 20-ounce soda states the serving size as “8 ounces”; however, most people drink the entire bottle.
Step Three: You must include a MINIMUM of 6 different food/beverage items for each day but do not stop at 6 if you have had more. Failure to list at least 6 different foods/beverages for each day results in a one point deduction per food/beverage missing.
