Task 2: Complete research to support the thesis statement
Just like the ‘Evaluate and organize’ part of the legal inquiry process, you will use the following Research Organizer to record and organize the research to support your answer. You should access and save a copy of this blank organizer to your computer, as you will need to use the organizer again in a later learning activity. This task will also involve you working on the ‘Interpret and analyse’ part of the inquiry process as you begin to reflect on the research you’ve gathered.
TASK 3: Do an argumentative paragraph
Continuing with the ‘Interpret and analyse’ component of the legal inquiry process, you will also begin to move into the ‘Evaluate and draw conclusions’ portion as you build your paragraph, being sure to use evidence and/or examples to support your main thesis. Recall that you learned how to write an argumentative paragraph in Learning Activity 1.4. You’ll find a reminder of these steps in the following document, How To make An Argumentative Paragraph. If you wish to use this organizer to plan your paragraph, you should access and save a copy of it to your computer, as you may wish to use it again in a later learning activity.
Task 4: Recheck the work by proofreading carefully
An important part of any legal inquiry is being able to clearly communicate your findings and conclusions. Once you have written the first draft of your paragraph, read through it again to make sure that it all makes sense. When you write your final copy, add any necessary citations, and be sure to check for correct spelling and grammar. (Do not rely on spell check alone: while you may have spelled a word correctly, you might have used the wrong word!) Be sure to refer to the documents reminding you how to write an argumentative paragraph and how to use APA is most to ensure that you have completed all the required steps.
