First: view the exhibition/artwork without paying any attention to any provided additional information, such as the artist’s introduction, titles, descriptions etc. Instead, focus simply on the artwork, take your time to view it and write your impression of the artwork in your notebook. Describe how the artwork makes you feel and/or what thoughts it brings up, or anything else that the artwork evokes in you.
Second, read any additional material that is provided about the artist, the artwork, the title etc. and write again in your notebook how this additional information affected your perception of the artwork.
