You will identify one key piece of health care legislation that is currently making its way through a state legislative process in the United States Federal Government or in your state of residence, but that has not yet passed or been enacted.
Overview of the health problem: An overview of the public health problem which is addressed by the legislation. Discuss the problem and number of people affected by it and by the proposed bill.
Severity of the health problem: Discuss the research behind the health problem and the bill.
Overview of the bill and Stakeholders: Please make sure to identify the name, number, and author of the bill. In this section you should include an overview of the proposed bill in terms of its specific provisions. Describe whom this bill affects. Who are the stakeholders? Also, please make sure to identify the status of the bill. Has it been passed by one or both houses?
Promises/Expected Outcomes: Who are the promoters of the bill? Describe what the promoters of the bill believe that the bill will accomplish. Make sure to discuss what specific health outcomes that the promoters say will occur if the bill is passed.
Problems: Describe what individuals or groups are opposed to the bill and why.
Existing policy related to the topic: The most important legislative, judicial, and regulatory policy instruments. Is there any already in place?
Options: Discuss what the options are to fix this health care problem. Include how to go about fixing the health care problem in detail. Is the bill one of them? According to the biblical worldview, do you think this is a good bill for solving the problem addressed? Why or why not? If not, what bill would you propose in its place and why?
Recommendation: What is your recommendation regarding this bill from a public health perspective as a Christian scholar? Make sure to back up your opinion with the facts. Whether the policy recommendation is accepted as sound or dismissed in favor of another option largely depends on how well the issue and the arguments justifying the recommended course of action are presented
