Guidelines for Multicultural Counseling Video Summary/Critique

Students will select an online video on anything specific to multicultural counseling, culturally competent counselors, multicultural student school counseling issues, social justice counseling, anti-racist counseling, et cetera. The video must have been posted within the last three years and be at least 15 minutes in length.

Students will write a three – four-page summary with critique about the video’s content and context. The title of the video, the date on which it was posted, the names of the presenters (if possible), and whether the video is part of a video channel to which one can subscribe must be provided. A discussion/conclusion section including student reflection, analysis, and critique is required. A manageable way to approach this section of the assignment is to think in terms of a Venn diagram: Thesis (video content) contrasted and compared to antithesis (student’s knowledge, including research-based knowledge and practical/professional experience) and then synthesis.

The paper must be APA-formatted (i.e., title page, three to four pages of text, and

references page [no Abstract required]) and word processed, spell-checked, proof-read, and edited

prior to submission. Considerations for grading include: Was the video summarized in a concise

way? Was the video written about with clarity of expression? Was there accurate grammar and

spelling? What were the student’s observations, reactions, and thoughts about the video? What

were the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the video?

Emphasis will be extended to the below items when evaluating the paper:
