Introduction
For this project you will research the works of 3 or more artists in the movements that we have studied in Contemporary Art: Abstract Expressionist, Pop Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art and/or Process Art. You will select 3-5 works from each artist and put together a digital exhibition of their art. Use the gallery layout from the University of Maryland, from the resource ?Think Like a Curator? as your physical space. You can put your exhibit together in a slideshow, make a website using Wix (or another free site), or organize it in a traditional paper form (and include artwork in the order they will be viewed in.) The project will be submitted as a blog post on Blackboard. You can focus on one art movement or blend artists? work from multiple movements. Along with the exhibition you will write a 3-4 paragraph curatorial statement that speaks about each artist?s work, how the work helped shape their own art movement, and how your exhibit generates new meaning by bringing the artists and artwork together. Choose an anchor piece, which is usually the strongest (or sometimes the largest) piece of the exhibit. Curators sometimes organize a show around a central piece, this can be another nice entry point.

Include a 3-4 paragraph curatorial statement, refer to the RISD guide How to write a curatorial statement.
Include images of 3-5 artworks from each artist
Label each artwork with artist name, title, medium, year, size or include an image list at the end of your curatorial statement. You do not need to write a description for each piece beyond the basic identifying elements. Include them in the order that they will be viewed in. Be sure to explain why you ordered them in the way you did, and how that helps fit your curatorial theme or narrative. The image of the artwork should be visible, inserted directly into the body of the blog post, slideshow or website.

Or the theme can be more formal and explore a Visual Element of Art (like line, color, value, etc.) For example, the artists may all use red in different ways that you compare and contrast through the exhibit.
Who is your audience? Explain who your audience is and how you are trying to engage them with the work.
Exhibition Design & Artist Examples (paragraphs 2-3)
In your statement, or with an accompanying map or diagram, describe how your exhibit will be laid out and tell us why you chose the design you did. Refer to the University of Maryland ?Think Like a Curator? slideshow for further guidance here, as well as How to Curate an Exhibition from Victoria Art Gallery. Use the UMaryland gallery space map as the location of your exhibit. Consider where you will place each piece and tell us why – where will your anchor piece be? You can add in floating walls if you want to get creative, also if there is another existing gallery floor plan you would like to use instead please feel free!
Give specific examples from the artworks you selected to describe how the art fits your central theme.
