Discussion Responses to the following two posts.
Discussion 1: According to Britt & Jex, (2008), Productive behavior is defined as “employee behavior that contributes positively to the goals and objectives of the organization”. (p. 96). Some examples of productive behaviors are minimizing distractions, determining priorities, doing one task at a time, time management, being creative and innovative, and collaborating well with other team members. Minimizing distractions helps an employee to be more focused on their work which results in a higher level of productivity. Determining priorities helps productivity because it keeps an employee from getting overwhelmed because it breaks down the tasks into smaller tasks which make the goal feel and look more attainable. It also ensures that the most important parts of the tasks are accomplished first. Doing one task at a time Iris tells us that completing “one task at a time is a more productive behavior than multitasking because it helps you focus, improves your concentration, increases your efficiency, and optimizes your productivity”, (2023). Time management is a productive behavior because it helps you prioritize tasks, lower stress levels, and enhance focus while improving efficiency, (Iris, 2023). Creativity and innovation are productive behaviors because they are responsible for discovering new ideas and products that in the big picture will contribute to an organization’s success, (Iris, 2023).
Productive behavior can be measured by using assessment tools or performance metrics. These assessment tools will compute the percentage of input to output and determine the productivity level for each evaluated employee. The company I work for assesses productive behavior by calculating employees’ productivity each shift and comparing the percentage to a weekly and monthly percentage level of employee productivity. The most productive employee receives acknowledgment of the achievement and a small reward like a free beverage or lunch.
Discussion 2: Productive workplace behavior is defined as actions and planning that contributes to an organizations overall goals or values. It involves job performance, and factors in job performance which are common across jobs. Productive behavior can be measured ” through performance metrics, such as quality of work, output, and other performance or work standards”(Triola, 2021). In order to assess how productive a worker’s behavior is, we have to establish a standard off of which we can work.
One of the ways to measure employee productivity is by setting a baseline for our expectations. For example, if we work at a car dealership, we can set monthly goals for how many cars each salesmen is expected to sell, or how much profit they are expected to bring in each month. By establishing a set of organizational expectations, we can measure how above or below these standards our worker fall, individually and as a team. This is referred to as the quantitative method.
We could also utilize the 360 degree feedback method, where employees receive performance feedback from their leaders, co-workers, and even those they serve. This gives them the opportunity to have their productivity assessed from all different angles.
I would say that my workplace uses 360 degree feedback. We communicate openly and conduct reviews of one another and our overall organizational contributions.
