Example:
There are many aspects of how an individual’s self-esteem can be affected. One is appearance, this is because of how people treat someone based on how they look. People can be rude or discriminate towards you, hence, it will affect you negatively.
Appearance can be defined as the way a person looks which includes a person’s weight, height, skin colour and race etc… as an example of low self-esteem is Sarah, a 12-year-old girl who is overweight and just entered secondary. Her classmates did not want to speak to her but only laughed at her. As a result, she is socially declining as she felt insecure and less confident to interact.
Physically, Sarah may want to get surgery, which can create health risks for her in the future. Sarah may decide to begin dieting which can affect her physically as she may develop something like Bulimia or Anorexia.
Intellectually, these can all create the impact of body dysmorphia and cause her to isolate this would cause Sarah to develop emotional distress such as depression and or anxiety and distance herself from events in her life. Developing body dysmorphia would have an impact on mental health as this causes you to obsess about one or more perceived imperfections in your appearance flaws that are, to others, either insignificant or undetectable.
Socially due to their lack of confidence, she will not want to attend events in her life with her friends and go out to certain places as she is very insecure. This would also affect her friends as they are not able to understand why she has been so distant from them.
