H. pylori infection causes gastritis, PUD, gastric cancer and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Approximately 20% of infected individuals will develop PUD and less than 1% will develop gastric cancer. HP eradication markedly decreases ulcer recurrence.
