I need to make a video. I’m looking for a conversation for the following scenario related to depression, too. The bold letters ( that is the rubric) must be included in the conversation between the nurse and patient.
Your name is Rose. You are a single 56 year-old Portuguese Canadian woman of average weight and height. You take pride in your work, appearance and your network of friends. Recently, you have become very stressed and confused. Your father died recently and you had a conflicted relationship related to childhood abuse and his alcoholism. (Throughout your adult years, you have seen your father on occasion, but only for brief periods; you have always been uncomfortable with him). Your father died in a hospice in your city and you were unable to be present at his bedside during his final days due to deadlines and pressures at work. Your brother was present when your father died and called you to come in; you decided not to see him…. You just couldn’t go. And, during funeral preparations, you went out of town to tend to an ailing aunt in another province. You did however, manage to go to the funeral. Your brother is angry with you and told you that you should “just get over it!”
Since the funeral three weeks ago, you are having trouble sleeping. You are losing weight because you cannot eat; you feel nauseated all the time. When you go to the mental health clinic, you appear restless, anxious and depressed. When the nurse asks you why you have come, you avoid eye contact, try to articulate your thoughts, but just cry. In fact, you weep. The nurse waits patiently, with a concerned look on her face, and you start to describe your father’s death and your troubled childhood. Repeatedly, you express your guilt over “not having been a better daughter”, that “maybe if you had tried harder you could have helped your father stop drinking”, and that “you were selfish because you kept your distance from him.” At one point you exclaim, “Maybe I should have died instead of him!”
